Trouble Shooting and Training Guide:

Assembling or Trouble shooting a Pentium class computer. Upgrading with CDROM, Sound Card, Fax/Modem, and/or Network card.

System configuration:

  • Motherboard.
  • CPU.
  • CPU fan
  • Memory
  • Hard drive
  • Floppy drive
  • Monitor
  • CDROM
  • Sound Card
  • 56k Fax/Modem
  • Network card
  • Operating System

Bench Testing the board:

Before assembling the case you can use the work bench or kitchen table.

  1. Install CPU.

  2. Check jumpers

  3. Connect keyboard

  4. Install memory

  5. Install video adapter

  6. Connect monitor to video adapter

  7. Connect power supply to mother board

  8. Power up and check for errors.

Building the Computer

If successful assemble components in case and build computer.

  1. Power on system

  2. Connect Floppy drive

  3. Connect Hard drive

Start Computer

  1. Set CMOS

  2. Set date and time

  3. Set floppy drive

  4. Set Hard parameters

Installing the Operating System

Restart and watch for errors

  1. Correct errors.

  2. Boot computer from floppy system disk.

  3. Partition hard drive

  4. Restart and format hard drive

  5. Install operating system

  • MS-DOS

  • Windows 3.1

  • LINUX

  • Windows 95

  • Windows 2000

Restart  the system

Upgrading or Installing the peripherals

  1. Connect CDROM

  2. Install CDROM Drivers, Check for errors and correct.

  3. Restart and test CDROM, Check for errors and correct.

  4. Install modem and Modem Drivers, Check for errors and correct.

  5. Install Sound Card and Sound Drivers, Check for errors and correct.

  6. Install Network card Network Drivers, Check for errors and correct.

If any of the steps above fail, RTM -Read The Manuals!
